There is an active school council with a Head Boy, Head Girl and deputies. Great emphasis is given to ‘pupil voice’ and they meet regularly with the Headteacher. An Eco Committee also meet regularly and ensure the school follows environmentally sound procedures. The Eco committee have worked particularly hard on the outdoor classroom.

Thoresby has been awarded an ‘Active Mark’, ‘Healthy School’ status, an ‘Eco Flag’ and an International School award.

We are very proud of our strong team of teachers, who are ably supported by 20 teaching assistants. Three of our teachers are recognised as ‘lead teachers’ to share expertise in other schools.

The school was built in 1902. The wonderful old building is full of character, including the original school bell that rings every morning to welcome the school community. The building has been extended and remodelled over the years to provide us with a safe, stimulating learning environment equipped for 21st century learning.

All or classrooms are bright and welcoming with interactive whiteboards and access to the internet. We have an air conditioned ICT suite with new computers. There is a large library resource area that is currently being restocked. Our large building allows us the luxury of a designated Music, Art and Design room. This is often filled with the delightful smells of our cooking club who conjure up mouth-watering recipes! Two large halls are used for assemblies and PE.

We have recently redeveloped the outside space. A £250 000 investment has provided us with a state of the art 3G sports pitch that can be used in all weathers, new picnic benches and play equipment in the adjoining community area ( that we have exclusive use of during the school day) and a new outdoor classroom area with seating for a full class. There is also a large playground area and an Early Years outdoor play area.
