Home and School

"Parents’ commitment to their children’s learning is essential. The opportunities  parents give to young children for acquiring language skills from birth onwards  have a major influence on their later success in learning to read."

( DFEE. National Literacy Strategy. 1997).

Thoresby  recognises the crucial partnership between school and home in developing pupils’ skills  in all areas of the curriculum . This involves responsibilities on both sides of the partnership. Quite simply, children achieve their best when their parents support the work of the school, both in the curriculum and in  matters of discipline.

Parents need to instill in their children a respect for education and those who deliver it." (DFEE. “School Attendance” 1994).

When your child is admitted to Thoresby you, as parents/carers, and your child  will be asked to sign the Thoresby Primary School 'Home-School-Child Agreement'.   We at school will also sign it.

The agreement covers certain reassurances on our part coupled with a commitment from you and your child to uphold the rules and ethos of the school.

For our part we will endeavour to :-

Ensure your child is safe, happy and secure

Give her/him equal access to the opportunities on offer

Do our utmost to see your child reaches his/her potential

Keep you well informed of your child's progress and any concerns the school may have.

Inform you about what the teachers intend to teach the children each term

We would expect you as parents/carers, for your part, to :-

Send your child to school, regularly and on time, prepared to learn

Support your child's learning at home

Support the school's ethos, discipline policy, anti-racism policy and anti-bullying policy

Take the opportunities on offer to consult teachers about your child's progress- at least once a term

Keep to the school's dress code

Your child would be supported by you and prepared to :-

    Work hard

Keep the school rules

Respect teachers and fellow pupils

Keep to the school's dress code
